Today I gave in and opened the Diaper Genie Box (a.k.a. maternity clothes box). I held out as long as I could, but spandex and elastic were calling my name.
About 6 years ago I pack all my 'great' maternity clothes up into the Diaper Genie box and shoved it in the basement. For some reason that particular box seemed so appropriate for the occasion. I had no idea when or if I'd ever be opening it again.
About 4 years ago I lovingly handed the box over to my sister. She laughed and laughed at the contents. She made fun of the many pairs of gingham capris and tent shirts. She mocked the jumper dresses and couldn't believe I had ever worn pants that had front panels that went all the way to my boobs. She didn't seem to understand that 5 years earlier those things had been in fashion (Right??!!?).
Last month my sister returned the great Diaper Genie box. The box I thought I would never see again. She took the time to show me all the goods. I was glad to see that a few items had gotten lost and that a few items had been added. But after she left, I closed the box up nice and tight and put it in my closet. I figured I had a couple more months before I needed any of that stuff. Boy was I wrong. Baby number 3 seems to want a lot more room then the last 2, and a lot sooner. So today I caved and started digging, but after trying on a few pairs of pants I realized, not only am I getter large, but I'm short. While typing this, I'm in a pair of pants that I've rolled a good 3 inches so they don't drag on the ground. Why does my sister have to be so tall? But no matter the length, the belly is happy for all the new space.
I don't want anyone getting the wrong idea. I have not had the ability to do my regular pants up for quite some time. I've been in denial. I have a nice pair of comfy/fat jeans and they have been my best friend this past month, but I know as soon as they touch the washer and dryer (which they desperately need) they will no longer be comfy. I also purchased the greatest maternity invention EVER! A BellaBand. I wish someone would have invented this thing 9 years ago, I would have been a lot happier pregnant lady. I have been able to wear most of my regular pants with the help of this amazing thing. I don't button, I don't zip and with the band they stay up perfectly and it just looks like I have on a white layer shirt.
Here's to getting large and finding comfort and joy in the Diaper Genie Box. I think I'm going to go eat some cookies now.
