I will admit I love Halloween, but I'm not a fan of dressing up. I dread Halloween costume parties all year, but my girls are the complete opposite. The bigger, the crazier, the less they are recognized, the BETTER. They love the face paint and the costumes and the wigs. They start planning their costumes months in advance, and this year was no exception.
Bellatrix from Harry Potter
Abby, who is OBSESSED with Harry Potter, announce weeks ago that she wanted to be Bellatrix. I had NO IDEA who that was. She showed me pictures and I will admit I tried to talk her out of it several times. You can't just buy that costume in the store and knew it was going to take a lot of creativity on my part to put it together.
We had the black wig and some spray paint gave it the perfect white stripe. I found the dress at a thrift store, but it was a women's large so Abby and I spent an afternoon tearing it apart and stitching it back together. I love the end result. Abby can totally pull off evil. Abby loved that people at school didn't recognize her.
Crazy Clown
Sydney choose a perfect costume for her....crazy, funny, playful clown. She originally wanted to be a ladybug, but when she saw the wig and nose at the costume store, she completely changed her mind. We did paint her face with the traditional white and big red smile for Derek's work party, but it drove her crazy all night so she didn't want to have that much makeup on ever again.
Sydney fell in love with the clown shoes at the party store, but they wanted almost $20 for them. I thought that was ridiculous and knew I could do something just as good for a lot less. I got a big pair of shoes for $3 at the thrift store and just sprayed them red. They looked great and it was hilarious to watch her walk around in them.
Lil' Pumpkin
And Evan was our lil' pumpkin. He look adorable and the costume didn't seem to bother him that much. He was soft and fuzzy and squishy. He sleep through most of the Halloween night festivities, but he sure looked sweet doing it.
Mama Clown & El Jefe
Like I mentioned earlier, I do not like to dress up and neither does Derek, but it is required at his work party so we had to pull some costumes together. I was Sydney's mama clown and Derek was a sombrero loving El Jefe. We didn't win any costume contests, but I think we looked great for just throwing something together.
****************
Unlike most Halloween nights, we had GREAT, PERFECT weather this year. I'm so glad the girls didn't have to trick or treat in the snow and rain like usual. We started off the night with dinner, games and experiments at the Dowdle's house and after trick or treating crashed on the couch and watched movies.
All the kids, including Derek, loving playing with the dry ice.
Thanks Doctor Kill and your lovely assistant for letting us hang out at your house. We had a great time like we always do.
